Sustainability is about meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Australia's cities and towns of the future must successfully integrate the needs of people, the built and natural environment. Environmentally sustainable development means we can enjoy a high quality of life while we retain and enhance our biodiversity, have a developed infrastructure that gives efficient and equitable access to services and utilities, preserve the essentials of the ‘Australian lifestyle’ and contribute to the economic wealth of the nation.
We have developed some resources to help you increase your sustainability:
Additionally, NCC currently runs a variety of different sustainability behavioural change programs. For more information about these programs, see the information below, or call Kate Hopkins at the Nature Conservation Council, (02) 9516 1488, email khopkins@nccnsw.org.au. We can also deliver these programs in your region. If you are interested, please contact us for an information pack.

100% Ready
A roadshow (funded by the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency) was delivered through regional NSW from January to July 2012, to encourage communities to uptake renewable energy technologies. A vast majority of Australians support a move to 100% clean energy, but a lot also think we’re not ready yet. The project brought real stories from the clean energy frontline to over twelve regional centres, to prove Australia is 100% ready to start making the switch. NCC is currently looking at expanding the program further by working on community energy projects closely with a couple of regional centres. If you are interested in finding out more, please contact us at the details above.
The Climate Challenge
The Climate Challenge is a tried and tested environmental education model, enthusiastically received by each of the twelve communities that it has been delivered in to date. The program delivers positive environmental outcomes and builds community strategies for a low carbon lifestyle.
