With only weeks to go until the local council elections on Saturday 8 September, NCC is working on opportunities for member groups to put environmental issues on the agenda in their local council elections and beyond.
If your group hasn't already started planning for the local council elections, now is a great time to start thinking about how you will make sure that environmental issues feature prominently in your local area.
Policy Platform (download a copy below)
In preparation for the elections, NCC has worked with members of the Environmental Liaison Office (ELO) to develop a policy platform for use by member groups to engage with local candidates and assist with running local candidate forums or meetings.
The policy platform covers natural areas and wildlife, urban sustainability, pollution and waste, planning and development and public participation and accountability. A link will be provided soon.
We hope that the policy platform will be a useful resource for member groups that can be adapted to your local circumstances in the lead up to your local council election.
Engaging with local candidates
Candidate nominations will close in early August. Once nominations are finalised, NCC staff will be happy to assist your group to organise and run a local candidates forum and arrange meetings with candidates to secure positive environmental commitments.
