Over the past five years there have been numerous reforms to legislation that impacts upon biodiversity conservation in NSW.

The table below highlights the recent changes to the NSW Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995, the development of the Native Vegetation Act and the changes to the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.

November 2006: Biobanking Legislation passes June 2006: NCC Report on the state of the Native Veg Reforms

National Parks - not for saleSubmissions to the Taskforce on Tourism and National Parks have now closed.

The Nature Conservation Council of NSW and the National Parks Association of NSW, supported by the Blue Mountains Conservation Society and other member organisations, sent a submission asserting our core principle that nature conservation is the primary function of national parks and wilderness areas.

Thank you to all our members and supporters who added their voice re-affirming our strong opposition to any change to the National Parks and Wildlife Act or the Wilderness Act .

The secret’s out. Our National Parks are places we should all go and visit and the NSW Government wants to encourage this. But some industry lobbyists are pushing for less eco-friendly outcomes.

Biodiversity Report - Recommends Regulatory Change PDF Print E-mail
Biodiversity ReportIn recognition of the mounting threats to the effective conservation of biodiversity, the Nature Conservation Council of NSW commissioned the Environmental Defender’s Office of NSW to prepare a discussion paper on the state of biodiversity conservation in the state.

This report has identified 35 recommendations for addressing the ineffective nature of the current regulatory regime.

The report is meant to serve as a tool for discussion with government and within community groups.
