Lane Cove Bushland and Conservation Society Inc

What we do:

The aims of the Society are:
  • to preserve the biodiversity of the natural heritage of Lane Cove Municipality by means of conservation and the proper management of the natural bushland, wet lands and aquatic
  • ecosystems, both for their intrinsic value and for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations;
  • to ensure that air, land and water pollution controls in Lane Cove are of a sufficiently high standard and are adequately implemented to prevent harm to human health and the natural environment; and
  • to represent locally the wider concerns expressed in Australia and internationally for the protection of the natural environment and where appropriate, take action to express support for such concerns.

Achievements:

The achievements of this Society can best be seen in the greening of Lane Cove, and in the amenity provided in the Municipality - both visual and otherwise, enjoyed by the general community.

In particular, it has been successful in:
  • the protection of Lane Cove Bushland Park and its status as a wildlife refuge;
  • promotion and support for Council's regeneration programs;
  • promotion of a plan of management for bushland well before the requirements of later legislation;
  • initiating and supporting the production of the plan - the Society has three members of the committee administering this management plan;
  • initiating the first hydrology study, now embraced by Councils State wide; and
  • promotion of a pilot recycling program, resulting in a permanent system being adopted by Council.

Membership:

Membership is open to anyone interested in promoting the aims of the Society, and who applies in writing for membership, and is approved by the committee. Membership includes the cost of the newsletter.

Publications: We publish a Monthly Newsletter "Bushranger"

What our members say

We really appreciate your ongoing interest and support...

...you are such a key part of the environmental movement, we can’t do without you.

Thought you guys were great in Braidwood.

So glad there are capable dedicated people out there working for change.

Thank you both for this excellent joint letter with Queensland Conservation Council to Environment Ministers.

This is a case of NCC being a huge help to member groups.

I was moved by the long-term dedication of some of the award winners, and very impressed by the harmony of feeling at the event.

(I have served at many, many events over my life, and never felt such quiet unity).
