The climate won’t wait for action on renewable energy

The latest report from the Climate Commission, released today, highlights the need for urgent action on climate change in NSW, according to the state’s peak environment group.  

The report, Climate impacts and opportunities for NSW, finds that climate change impacts on people and the environment will be will be serious and far reaching, with an increasing risk of heatwaves, bushfires, changing patterns of drought and heavy rainfall.

NSW Government must take action to protect local neighbourhoods from coal seam gas

The Nature Conservation Council of NSW has welcomed Dart Energy's announcement that it will not drill for coal seam gas at St Peters in Sydney's inner west, and has called on the NSW Government to revoke the company's drilling approval.

National parks inquiry puts fox in charge of hen house

The Nature Conservation Council of NSW (NCC) has today called on Premier O’Farrell to categorically rule out any weakening of environmental protections for national parks and public lands in New South Wales.

 

“We are alarmed that government members in the Upper House have lent their support to a move by the Shooters and Fishers Party to establish a parliamentary inquiry into the management of national parks and public lands,” said Pepe Clarke, Chief Executive Officer of the Nature Conservation Council of NSW.

New pollution figures underscore perversity of coal mining subsidies

New carbon pollution figures released by the federal government highlight the perversity of multi-billion dollar subsidies to the mining industry, according to the Nature Conservation Council of NSW.

The latest update of the National Greenhouse Gas Inventory found that an increase in Australia’s carbon pollution over the last quarter was largely driven by increased fugitive emissions from coal mines. [1]
