Break with tradition this Christmas by delighting your friends and family with the quirky, unique gift of adopting a shark. Adopt a Shark not only solves the dilemma of what to give the person who has everything, but will help save the majestic Grey Nurse Shark from extinction.
“As little as $75 per year opens up a window to the extraordinary lives of Grey Nurse Sharks and makes one a part of your family,” Cate Faehrmann, executive director of the Nature Conservation Council of NSW said today.
“The perfect gift for ocean lovers and outdoor adventurers, adoptive ‘parents’ play a significant role in protecting sharks and marine environments.
“Sharks may look tough enough to look after themselves, but human impacts have decimated their numbers worldwide. Nicknamed ‘Labrador of the sea, Grey Nurse Sharks face extinction off the NSW coast within our lifetime if we don’t take care of them now.
“The money raised by Adopt a Shark funds important non-invasive shark research and campaigning for increased protection of this keystone marine species,” Ms Faehrmann said.
Each shark ‘parent' receives:
* Adoption Certificate thanking them for their involvement;
* Grey Nurse Shark CD containing educational games, fact sheets and some stunning Grey
Nurse Shark images;
* Quarterly email updates on Grey Nurse Sharks with informative articles, research
updates, sighting reports and other marine conservation information; and
* A Grey Nurse Shark poster and several Adopt a Shark tattoos.
For a limited time, new shark parents will also receive a special Save Fluffy stubby holder and an Adopt a Shark Christmas card featuring a wonderful illustration of a family welcoming their own adopted shark.
