Invite Friends to Take ActionRecently, the NSW Government released regional land use plans that fail to protect our environment and communities from rapid and unrestrained mining and gas expansion.
Despite their campaign promise to protect our water and critical environmental assets, the regional land use plans do not protect a single additional square inch of the state from mining and gas development.
In an extraordinary reversal, the NSW Government has removed basic protections for rivers, forests and critical wildlife habitat that were proposed in the draft land use plans. This backward step will leave iconic natural areas like Leard State forest and the Pilliga exposed to the destructive impacts of unprecedented mining and gas expansion.
Tell Premier O’Farrell and Planning Minister Hazzard they must do better.
On the same day that the flawed land use plans were released, government moved quietly to renew 22 coal seam gas exploration licenses, covering more than 5 million hectares across the state, including many of the most controversial titles in New South Wales.
Given the complete failure of the regional land use plans to deliver needed protections for our environment and communities, it is essential the government implement policies to protect water, wildlife and public health. These important reforms can be delivered through the new planning system, currently under review.
This is an essential time to speak up for reforms that put the people and environment of NSW above the narrow interests of the mining and gas industry. Send an email today!
